Teaching
I teach foundational courses in psychology as well as applied courses in psycholegal topics. Psychology is a topic that easily transcends the classroom. Although students certainly need to know the formal definitions of “operant conditioning” and “social influence,” their learning can go further by showing them that offering praise after they correctly answer a question is a form of positive reinforcement or standing to face the elevator door on their way to class was a form of conformity. I believe the best way to teach students about psychology is to make it applicable to their daily lives, to engage them in the material, and to foster their own curiosity. I have used this teaching philosophy across a variety of courses and teaching modalities.
